Purpose of the Role:

Our new client is recruiting for an experienced Senior Technical Advisor to work in the Kurdish Region of North Iraq.

This position is contingent upon contract award.

As project-wide technical lead on explosive remnant of war clearance and clearance related activities, the primary role is to provide leadership on all aspects of mine action services, acting as the technical advisor to the Project Manager and the line manager of all project Technical Advisors.

Proposed rotation is 12/3.

Contract is expected to run for 12 months.

Role and Responsibilities

The role and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Act as the project-wide technical lead, advising the Project Manager on the requirements of mine action services, be these legal, financial, technical, contractual orreputational.
  • In support of the Project Manager, liaise with client site representatives and other external stakeholders and authorities as required.
  • Directing and manage / oversee the work responsibilities of Technical Advisors in accordance with IMAS, NMAS, organisational procedures, other relevant policies, guidelines, best practices and project specifics.
  • Issue stop work orders when critical breaches of SOPS /best practices take place or are likely to take place.
  • Cnduct incident investigations and support such investigations conducted by authorities when required.
  • Take a leading role in quality management and quality improvements to mine action services.
  • Provide expert advice and assistance with the identification of all resources for mine action services, be it recruitment, logistics, facilities or equiptment.
  • Write reports as required and assist in the writing of reports, whether internal, IMAS / NMAS related or external.
  • Develop, approve and quality assure the delivery of training for all mine action staff as required.

Essential Skills

  • Trained & qualified to the International Mine Actions Standards minimum IMAS Level 3+.
  • Thorough proven knowledge of:
    • project and task planning processes, especially joint planning;
    • the use of decision-making tools – GIS;
    • mine action & EO SOPs & equipment;
    • technical and international humanitarian safety standards and procedures;
    • International Mine Actions Standards & QA/QC procedures;
    • counter-mine measures/demining or UXO clearance operations and related practices.
  • At least 10 years work experience in operations management, of which at least 5 years experience in mine action operations.
  • A solid understanding of proven team building and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical ability.
  • Experience and ability to live and work in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable to any situation.
